Daniel Neumayer conceived of the Harmony Center in the summer of 2005, when he felt called to create a spiritual community based on what he had learned from his own lifelong spiritual journey.
In January of 2006, Daniel Neumayer and his wife,
Gwendolyn Rothman, held the first celebration of the Harmony Center for the Joyful Spirit, a new spiritual community in the Oakland-East Bay area.
Just a few months after this Daniel offered to show a movie for the community in his home. This was a big hit and quickly developed in the a twice a month event known as
Movies that Matter.
Gwendolyn, a medical doctor, developed the
Harmony Health Circle. At the health circle, participants work together to enhance their health and enjoyment of life.
Other members of the community took on the task of feeding the homeless.
The Brown Rice Project was quite successful and is currently looking for new leadership to bring it into a new season.
The Harmony Center Today
Weekly
celebrations are held every Sunday in a beautiful wood-lined room that looks out onto Lake Merritt. The celebrations include live music by the Joyful Harmony Band, weekly talks on spiritual topics by Daniel Neumayer and occasional guests, opportunities to share thoughts and feelings in response to the weekly talks, and a social time after the celebrations with organic fruits, vegetables and other tasty treats.
The Harmony Center continues to expand and offer unique benefits to its members. Learn about our
